The one-liner

A Skool training ground where engineers design a real Australian house from plans to footings.

What they actually sell

BengLab Structural Engineering, run by Gabriel Gardin, lives on Skool. Its public pitch: "Design real Australian buildings." Membership costs $709 a year. Gabriel, a Queensland structural engineer with more than eight years of local design experience, takes members through a complete residential building to AS/NZS standards. The work covers load paths, framing, connections, bracing, timber, steel, masonry, slabs and footings, with the full drawing set drafted in AutoCAD. Design aids, templates and tools cut the blank-page problem, and mentorship, live calls and CPD hours sit alongside. Testimonials name members hired or promoted in cities across Australia and New Zealand. Inside sit 9 courses and a dense module library. A formal money-back promise is not spelled out on the about page.

Who pays and why

Graduate and early-career structural engineers in Australia and New Zealand, plus drafters stepping up. They fear interviews and first projects because university did not teach how a consultant actually designs. They pay for a full residential design project, design aids and mentorship from a practising engineer.

Where the members come from

Gabriel Gardin's Instagram and LinkedIn presence appears to feed the room. The Skool community reads as the member back end for people already drawn to that work. Exact follower counts stay off the public page.

What's holding it back

It is an annual-only commitment, which is a big first step for a graduate who has not seen the teaching yet.

Steal this

Build the whole course around one real project from start to finish, so members leave with work they can talk about in interviews.

Would this work in another niche?

Yes for any licensed trade with local codes, such as electrical or plumbing design. Weak where standards are global and free tutorials abound.

“An Outstanding Community for Structural Engineers BengLab Structural Engineering is an excellent learning and professional development community for structural engineers who want to strengthen the connection between engineering theory and real-world design practice. What I particularly value is the practical approach. The content goes beyond textbook theory and demonstrates how structural engineering problems are actually approached, designed and documented, including real project examples.”

“This is a fantastic course and I would highly recommend it. It gives you both practical and technical knowledge, explaining step by step how to design buildings to Australian Standards. From marking up architectural drawings to producing a full set of structural documentation, it gives you real-world knowledge that no other courses offer. It also connects you to other professionals in the industry, which can be just as valuable as any technical knowledge and well worth the investment!”

“When I joined the group, I was fresh to the practical aspects of structural engineering, despite having a strong theoretical background. Since I started completing the modules, the gap between theory and practice has significantly reduced, thanks to the thoroughly structured program Gabriel offers. Furthermore, the community itself is a true knowledge hub where you can extract a significant amount of industry expertise from both fellow engineers and Gabriel himself.”

“A great community for structural engineers. There’s an extensive course covering a wide range of practical topics, which I’ve found really helpful. On top of that, the community itself is a great place to ask questions, discuss real projects and learn from other engineers’ experience.”
